ABOUT SUN ISLAND ART

Canada is rich with native art and  culture. SUN ISLAND ART brings you some of  that richness through the wonderful creations hand crafted by the Inuit.

I have always been  interested in Canada's Inuit people as my father grew up in the Arctic of Norway which was not unlike the Arctic of Canada. I use to love to listen to stories he told of his life there. The name SUN ISLAND is English for "Soloy" the place where my grandfather was born more than one hundred years ago.When he became of age he took the name "Soloy" as a family name. When asked where he was from he always replied "The Land of the Midnight Sun" This phrase is used in northern communities around the world.
 

I managed an Arctic shop for a couple of years that sold Inuit products to help create employment for the people of the North. This helped to increase my  knowledge and connections. I liked the concept and decided to start my own online store.
